Low-Profile RTM & Vacuum Infusion: POLYLITE® 31515 Resins from Reichhold
Fabricators producing RTM parts know that a low-profile surface is not easily achieved. Much of the final product is highly dependent upon the resin selected. Reichhold's POLYLITE®31515-05 is a unique, one-component Class-A, modified polyester resin formulated specifically for low-profile RTM (Resin Transfer Molding).
POLYLITE® 31515-05 resins are available in promoted and non-promoted versions and are ideally suited for use in highly visible molded parts for applications with critical requirements for Class-A surface quality and dimensional stability. These resins are typically used with gel coat on at least one surface.
When a Class-A surface is required in vacuum infusion, two Reichhold resins separate themselves from all the other options: POLYLITE® 31515-07 (longer gel time) and 31515-08 (shorter gel time). Q.  HOW DO YOU TOP A HEAVY-DUTY TRUCK WITH A ROOF THAT’S TOPS IN APPEARANCE?
A.  Mold the roof with SMC formulated with Atryl® TCA resin from AOC.
Atryl® TCA resin set a new standard of surface excellence for painted SMC on cars, SUVs and light trucks.  Because great appearance can help market any vehicle, Atryl TCA is expanding into heavy-duty trucks.  So when a global truck supplier wanted the best-looking roof on new models, engineers specified SMC made with Atryl TCA.

According to OEM manufacturing charts, SMC made with Atryl TCA resin demonstrates at least a 90% reduction in paint pop defects.  For many applications, paint pops have been virtually eliminated.  Atryl TCA parts also register a 50% reduction in surface waviness and a 70% increase in toughness. SMC is a priority at AOC.
