The Star-News editorial staff scooped some major awards at the San Diego Press Club J-Awards banquet Oct. 24. Editor Michael C. Burgess, from left, took third place (Non-Daily Newspapers-Essay / Commentary / Opinion) with "Is that a Banana in your Pocket?" Sports and entertainment editor Phillip Brents took second place (Non-Daily Newspapers-Reviews) with "Clarks Bully Stands as a Brutal Testament to our Times" and third place (Non-Daily Newspapers-Sports Writing) with "Roller Hockey Madness."
