SDIF7
This year’s theme is “No Safety In Sameness,” borrowed from local renegade, historian and hellraiser, John Rippo, who wrote, “Fortunately, not everyone is willing to abide by the notions of safety in sameness. The people who push the creative envelope whether in art, music, politics, or even business, do their fellow man a great service by adding facets of what’s possible in life…”
Now, as much as ever before, IndieFest is dedicated to affirming the power of transformation that comes out of recognizing the independent spirit that drives the creative process. Whether that process manifests in music, film, art, business or community work, it takes work and risk and dedication. IndieFest is a place to make discoveries and be inspired by those who have embraced all of those and emerged with something remarkable.
In a time when inspiration is in short supply and the future looks dim to so many, the organizers hope that IndieFest 7 will do what it’s always intended to — lift spirits, open minds and empower us toward our most inventive, persevering selves.
Saturday, March 12 ~ EVERYTHING
Saturday will be the main festival day, featuring five stages and more than 80 acts including outstanding and extremely diverse music and film, poetry, interactive art activities, art classes for kids and grownups, dance, comedy, indie designers, delicious food and both beer and spirits offered in our new, huge 21+ area. Three of the five stages will be free, all day long.
Sunday, the Mental Eclectic Indie Film Stage continues for a second day of short films, features and Q & A panels with filmmakers and industry pros.
San Diego indie band Danielle LoPresti and the Masses will release the video for their newest song “Maybe I Was Wrong.” DON’T MISS THIS WORLD PREMIERE.
“A Cup of Tea,” written by Kevin Walsh and directed by Barrett Amato, will be one of the shorts screened during the weekend.
The Shakespearean actor James Marsters, who played Spike in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” will appear with his band Ghost of the Robot as will his son Sullivan Marsters.
As IndieFest prepares to celebrate it’s seventh year anniversary in a brand new location, it’s exciting to look back at how much the event has grown as well as what our potential is in the years to come.
Last March we saw the most successful IndieFest yet; so much so, we had to turn away hundreds of people, having reached capacity in our venues. After watching every floor of the 5-Star parking garage fill up with audience, every truck parked nearby becoming makeshift seating, we knew it was time to move.
Our new location is NTC Promenade at Liberty Station and, for the first time, we have lots of space to grow into. With fields of grass and trees and a gorgeous view of the bay, festival patrons can now stretch out on their blankets and relax between bands.
This marks the third move for IndieFest, after outgrowing its first home at The Abbey in the Banker's Hill district and then the several blocks and venues that made up the North Park location during the past four years.
Brand New Location:
NTC Promenade at Liberty Station
2640 Historic Decatur Road, San Diego, CA 92106
